FLIC Wind Shield Installation:
WHAT ARE WIND SHIELDS?
FLIC Wind Shields are metal shields that are inserted into the top of
the FLIC Luminary to provide wind protection for the candle flame and
to increase candle burn time in windy conditions.
WHEN DO YOU NEED A WIND SHIELD?
FLIC Wind Shields are not necessary when there are only light winds
(less than 8 mph) and no wind gusts. Over 8 mph winds or wind gusts
can cause the FLIC Luminary candle flame to go out or can drastically
reduce the candle burn time. The old paper sacks would crush in with
over 8 mph winds and thereby protected the flame but then the paper
sack often caught on fire causing a fire hazard.
HOW DO I INSTALL A WIND SHIELD?
1. Insert index finger into small round hole.
2. Place thumb towards edge closet to you and place middle finger towards
opposite edge.
3. Slightly bow FLIC Wind Shield so the center is raised by pulling
index finger upward while pressing the outside edges downward with the
thumb and middle finger.
4. Now with the FLIC Wind Shield bowed insert it into the top of the
FLIC Luminary.
5. Once the bowed upward center is level or slightly below the top edge
of the FLIC Luminary release the tension and the FLIC Wind Shield will
wedge into place.
6. Be certain the small round hole in the FLIC Wind Shield is positioned
and oriented above the small round hole in the FLIC Luminary. By doing
so you will notice that the large oval hole in the FLIC Wind Shield
is directly above the candle. This proper orientation will keep the
FLIC Wind Shield from getting hot and will allow you to light the candle
while the FLIC Wind Shield is in place. It will also keep your pinkies
from getting burnt if you install or remove the FLIC Wind Shield while
the candle is lit.
